The Seattle Seahawks are among the most unpredictable teams in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. Sweeping changes overtook the roster this offseason, with Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp, and DeMarcus Lawrence were the big-name arrivals. Long-term contributors Geno Smith, Tyler Lockett, and D.K. Metcalf were among the departures.
Head coach Mike Macdonald made notable changes across his coaching staff as well. All the unknowns make the Seahawks, well, an unknown commodity within the NFC West. John Schneider’s offseason gambles could go swimmingly, or they could backfire miserably.
Looking ahead to the impending 2025 campaign, Bleacher Report recently highlighted five teams that could be aggressive sellers at the early November trade deadline. The Seahawks unfortunately made the cut.
“The Seattle Seahawks have been sending mixed signals throughout the offseason,” Alex Kay wrote. “It first seemed they would be engaging in rebuilding efforts, shipping off the triumvirate of Geno Smith, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett—the core of Seattle’s offense for the past three seasons—following another near-playoff miss in 2024. Seattle then pivoted to signing veteran replacements for its outgoing core, inking both Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp to pricy deals in free agency.”
“The Seahawks are clearly hoping their $100 million investment in Darnold pays off and results in the franchise’s first playoff berth under head coach Mike Macdonald.”
If the Seahawks are “aggressive sellers” at the NFL trade deadline, that means the 2025 season was a full-blown disaster.
