Derby County stadium pitch torn up as diggers revamp Pride Park for 2025/26 season

Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium is undergoing a significant transformation as part of preparations for the 2025/26 EFL Championship season.

The club has commenced the removal of the existing pitch, which has reached the end of its lifespan after being installed in 2016 with a hybrid SISGRASS system. This marks the first complete pitch overhaul since its original construction.

The renovation project is being managed by Talbot Turf Supplies Limited, a specialist company with a longstanding relationship with the club. The process involves stripping the current surface entirely, including the SISGRASS fibres, to create a fresh foundation. Subsequent steps include installing a new sprinkler system, artificial edging around the pitch, and goal sockets. Once the new grass has been seeded and allowed to germinate for approximately three weeks, SISGRASS fibres will be reintroduced using specialized machinery. An additional five weeks of growth will follow before the pitch is ready for use.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the club’s facilities. In early 2025, Pride Park Stadium hosted the Subway Women’s League Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester City, showcasing the venue’s capacity to stage major events. The club’s commitment to improving its infrastructure reflects a desire to provide top-tier facilities for both players and fans.

The pitch renovation is scheduled to be completed ahead of the Rams’ pre-season training, which is set to commence in late June. This timeline ensures that the team will have access to a high-quality playing surface as they prepare for the upcoming season. The project underscores Derby County’s dedication to maintaining and enhancing Pride Park Stadium, ensuring it remains a premier venue in English football.
