Reece James Speaks Out After Chelsea Confirm Xabi Alonso as New Manager

After Reece James was asked what the Blues most need this summer, Chelsea was about to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the team’s new permanent manager.

Within hours of Saturday’s FA Cup final loss to Man City, the owners announced that Alonso would become Chelsea’s sixth permanent manager since BlueCo, which infuriated club legend Joe Cole.

Get Enzo out of here. I’m sick of seeing him shrug on the field and put up a mediocre effort. Garnacho, Palmer, and Neto ought to go too. Extremely ineffectual. Our goal should be to retain our top players. On his day, Cucu and Enzo are among them.

All that worries me is whether Enzo is truly trying his hardest. In the FA Cup final, he performed poorly. Not to be overlooked are Palmer, Caicedo, and Reece.

Alonso is agreeing to a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge, making him BlueCo’s first “manager” after the previous four hires were referred to as “head coach.” When he arrived, Thomas Tuchel was Chelsea’s manager.

However, Chelsea’s hopes of playing in Europe the next season quickly dimmed after learning of Alonso’s arrival following the team’s defeat to Man City. In addition, Chelsea has now dropped seven straight finals.

Reece James questioned what Chelsea most needed.

Reece James, the captain of Chelsea, was asked what the Blues need most in the summer while speaking to reporters following the match. It’s a difficult question, as Chelsea’s problems indicate that many things need to be fixed.

However, James’ response was spot on. James urged the owners to bring stability and consistency to Stamford Bridge following so much turmoil just before the news of Alonso broke.

“I believe the essential thing is certainly steadiness,” he said to TNT Sports. We’ve done our best, but it’s really hard to make changes and cuts in the middle of the season. Probably one of the most important things we all need is [stability].

The initial Xabi Alonso move by BlueCo points to the beginning of a new era.

Over the past four years, BlueCo has committed numerous errors. This season’s shortcomings have ultimately been caused by a lack of knowledge and comprehension together with a resistance to change.

Talk about how Xabi Alonso can finally bring success to the BlueCo era.

The first thing Xabi needs to understand is that because he signed with Chelsea, the British media and commentators won’t give him any leeway.

I have doubts about whether this position will succeed because it has turned into a poisoned chalice.

Xabi can succeed as long as BlueCo fulfills their commitment, which is ultimately what we all want—albeit for different reasons as fans than BlueCo. However, I still want Todd to acquire Egbhali.

The Conference League and Club World Cup victories filled in the gaps. The BlueCo era has not been successful, but in order for it to succeed, BlueCo must evolve, and they have done so with Alonso.

It is noteworthy that Chelsea chose Alonso as their first manager rather than head coach. Giving the boss more authority instead of frequently interfering is a shift from the hierarchical approach.

Both commentators and fans have been pleading for it. BlueCo has empowered Chelsea’s elite manager to perform to the best of his abilities. Alonso has the advantage.
