Journalist Simon Phillips disclosed on his Substack, Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, that certain Chelsea players have suddenly informed their agents that they wish to remain at the club due to Alonso’s arrival after previously informing them they intended to leave this summer.
Alonso has already established himself as a manager and has a strong name in the industry following a fruitful playing career, so this is not all that shocking.
Alonso won the Bundesliga while playing for Bayer Leverkusen, staying undefeated throughout the 2023–2024 campaign. As a player, he also won the World Cup, the Champions League, the European Championship, and the Bundesliga.
Chelsea players who may still depart Stamford Bridge in the summer
Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella might not stay with the team despite Alonso’s arrival. Although it is believed that Alonso wants to keep Cucurella and Fernandez, there is no assurance that either will stay given Spain’s desire.
According to a football agent, Cucurella is “1000 percent” certain to join Atletico Madrid or Barcelona this summer.
I hope the club holds onto him. The Spain international is unquestionably among the world’s top left-backs when he is playing well.
If not, he might be replaced by Jorrel Hato. This season, Hato has made an impression at both left and center backs. The former Ajax player appears prepared to play either position for the starting lineup in the 2026–2027 season.
