Auburn Tigers Receive Unfortunate News on No. 1 QB Recruit

The Auburn Tigers received unwelcome news regarding their top quarterback prospect for the 2026 class.

According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, quarterback Jared Curtis has narrowed down his final two schools to Georgia and Oregon. Curtis stands 6-foot-3.5 and weighs 225 pounds for Nashville Christian in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Tigers pursued Curtis and even invited him to two coach visits on January 8 and 30. He made an unofficial visit to Auburn in November.

Curtis would have made a valuable addition to Auburn’s 2026 recruiting class. The Tigers have yet to get a quarterback commitment from the class.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Curtis is a five-star prospect, the top quarterback in the 2026 class, and the fourth-best overall recruit.

Curtis has garnered interest from numerous SEC and national athletes. His offers include Ohio State, Alabama, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss, USC, LSU, and more.

If Curtis had chosen Auburn, he would have become the program’s first five-star quarterback commit. Auburn has commitments from four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harris, four-star receivers Devin Carter and Denairius Gray, four-star linebackers Shadarius Toodle and JaMichael Garrett, and three-star safety Wayne Henry.

Curtis had already committed to Georgia, but he reopened his recruitment in October. He initially committed to Georgia in March 2024.

Auburn’s quarterback play has been spotty in the previous two seasons. From 2023 to 2024, Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne served as the starting quarterback.

In 2023, Thorne had 1,755 throwing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Last season, he threw 2,713 yards, 21 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Auburn’s 2025 season begins against Baylor on August 30.
