Breaking: 5-star small forward commits to South Carolina

Thunder Bay, Ontario native and Montverde Academy (Fla.) five-star small forward Agot Makeer has committed to South Carolina, she announced on Saturday.

She chose the Gamecocks over UConn and Michigan State. Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina were also previously in the running for her pledge.

The McDonald’s All-American is the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle.

“It’s really good. I have a pretty good relationship with coach [Dawn] Staley,” Makeer previously told On3’s Talia Goodman. “It’s one of the powerhouses of women’s basketball like UConn. It’s really cool to be recruited by them and I love what they do there for black women, especially. I really like that and I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, so I’m excited to get on campus.”

Makeer is the second member of South Carolina’s 2025 class, joining Cypress (Texas) Cy Springs four-star SF Ayla McDowell, the No. 25 recruit in the nation.

“I’m a very competitive person,” Makeer said. “My work ethic isn’t like a lot of the other girls in my class, and I feel like that puts me ahead sometimes. I’m versatile in a way that my body is different, I can get to the rim and score from the perimeter.”
