The Tigers are once again searching for more positive results as they get set for the second series in their 10-game road trip. The team lost four straight games before finally snapping the skid this past Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels, dropping three in the four-game set to begin the trip. Detroit ended the month of June with a 10-17 record, the worst record in any single month so far this season. As July begins, they find themselves fourth in the American League Central, 15 games back of the first-place Cleveland Guardians, and eight behind the Kansas City Royals for the last Wild Card spot.

The Twins are doing everything they can to stay close to the Guardians while also maintaining their position in the Wild Card race as the All-Star Break nears. They head into the week having won each of its last three series, including taking two of three from the Seattle Mariners, on the road, this past weekend. After going 15-12 in the month of June, they are second in the Central, six games back of Cleveland. However, Minnesota is holding the second Wild Card spot, one game up on the Royals.
