Another Blow for Chelsea: Chalobah Injury Raises Defensive Concerns

In the last few minutes of the game, Trevoh Chalobah sustained what appeared to be a catastrophic injury, adding to our anguish on Tuesday night. He was stretchered off the field with much anxiety from everyone. It’s even more annoying because it happened in the last few minutes of a complete blowout.

Head coach Liam Rosenior said during the game that the initial diagnosis is a high ankle sprain, which is not the worst possible outcome but nevertheless not good news.

He has a high ankle sprain, according to the medical staff I spoke with. Given Trevor’s recent performance, I’m hoping it’s nothing too serious. Right now, we cannot afford to lose another defender.

Whether they are prayed for or not, high ankle sprains are by definition non-trivial and typically take four to six weeks to heal. Chalobah would be out for the remainder of the season and possibly longer if the case were more serious.

This season, Chalobah has been a constant presence, doing his best to stabilize a constantly shifting backline. Additionally, he has been one of the few players to consistently perform at a level that may not be the best but is at least dependable.

This summer, the 26-year-old will have two years remaining on his contract (with a club option), so the upcoming months may be crucial for both him and the team.
