Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has provided a squad fitness update ahead of Saturday’s Championship fixture at Blackburn Rovers.
Ashley Young (‘muscle tightness’) was unavailable for last Friday night’s 5-0 home win against Sheffield United, while Jens Cajuste came off after rolling his ankle.
“Ashley’s doing better,” said McKenna. “He’s just managing a little bit of an issue, but he’s trained with a group this week, so he’ll be available this weekend.
“Jens is good too, so we’ve had the full group – apart from Wes (Burns) – training this week.”
Burns is currently in the latter stages of his recovery from an ACL injury suffered at Liverpool in late January.
“He’s coming on well,” said McKenna. “He’s not training with a group yet, but is working outside. Maybe not quite every day, but quite a few days a week he’s now out on the grass with his boots on, doing football movements and progressing well.
“All being well, maybe he can start joining in with some team training after the next international break, which would be a big boost for him and for us.”
Asked when the Welsh winger might be available to play again, the Blues boss replied: “There’s no point putting timescales on these things. It’s a big injury.
“We want to be in a position where we can support Wes and help him get back to his best.
“It’s very much a sort of respond to how the player’s reacting to the training sessions and how he’s progressing. And we won’t really know that until we get him back in around the group and see how he’s getting on.”
