Ipswich Town agree terms with Napoli over fresh deal for midfielder

Ipswich Town have agreed terms with Napoli over a fresh loan deal for midfielder Jens Cajuste, who spent last season with the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Ipswich Town are focused on making an immediate return to the Premier League in the 2025/26 campaign. Although their stay in the top flight was brief, ITFC demonstrated resilience and now head into the new season in a strong position.

With highly regarded manager Kieran McKenna still leading the charge, the Tractor Boys are tipped to be among the Championship’s top promotion contenders. However, complacency must be avoided; success is far from guaranteed.

Ipswich have already strengthened their squad with some smart summer additions, though their efforts to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney look to have failed amid reports he has rejected the move. However, fresh reports claim another midfielder is set to join them, one who is a familiar face.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ipswich Town have agreed terms with Napoli to sign Jens Cajuste. The Swede will return to ITFC on loan once again with an obligation-to-buy should the Tractor Boys earn promotion to the Premier League.

The buy option will be around €7.5m, and Ipswich Town will also pay a €2m loan fee. Terms were agreed after a move to the Turkish side Besiktas fell through.

Jens Cajuste was a shining light for Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town didn’t have much to cheer about during the 2024/25 season, but one bright spot was the loan signing of Cajuste, who proved to be a valuable addition for the Tractor Boys.

While his contributions weren’t enough to spark a successful survival push, the defensive midfielder impressed across most of his time at Portman Road. Given his performances, it’s no surprise he’s attracting interest ahead of a likely departure from Napoli.

The 25-year-old, who is also eligible to represent the United States, made 33 appearances for Ipswich in all competitions. He registered one goal and one assist, with his only strike coming in a 4-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Another excellent addition for Ipswich Town

The Tractor Boys have already made some very good signings this summer, and Cajuste would be another. Many key players have already moved on this summer, so new signings were a must.

Cameron Burgess, Marcus Harness and Massimo Luongo have all moved on to Swansea City, Huddersfield Town and Millwall, respectively. Liam Delap though, is the headline departure, joining Chelsea for a massive fee.

Azor Matusiwa is currently the standout signing for Ipswich Town. A partnership of him and Cajuste in the midfield for the Tractor Boys would be phenomenal at Championship level.
