In 2024, Duran had a breakout season, earning All-Star honors and the All-Star Game MVP. He posted a .285 batting average with 21 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 34 stolen bases. So far in 2025, he is hitting .264 with 34 RBIs in 60 games. Despite a recent slump, Duran remains a valuable asset due to his speed and defensive capabilities.
The Padres, currently second in the NL West, have been dealing with injuries to key players like Gavin Sheets, Yu Darvish, and Michael King. Acquiring Duran could bolster their outfield and provide much-needed offensive support. However, they must balance this need with the requirement for starting pitching depth.
