After a successful second ATHLOS Women’s-only meet in New York last month, Sha’Carri Richardson gave her consent to Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams.

Track and field standout Sha’Carri Richardson is expected to be a key player in Alexis Ohanian’s next league, Athlos. Alongside fellow athletes like Gabby Thomas and Tara Davis-Woodhall, Richardson will not only compete but also act as an advisor-owner, owning a portion of a revolutionary paradigm for the sport.

Richardson has publicly thanked the Reddit co-founder for the plan, which is the first athlete-ownership structure in track and field. In a recent chat with tennis great Serena Williams, Ohanian’s wife, and her sister Venus Williams, she expressed her opinions.

A Fresh Perspective on Track and Field

Richardson attended the 2025 presentation during her offseason, despite not having participated in any of Ohanian’s prior Athlos competitions. She took part in a meet-and-greet with fans and other notable visitors, such as Ohanian and the Williams sisters.

Richardson emphasized Ohanian’s influence on female athletes during her conversation with Serena and Venus. He gave us a voice, you know, in a lot of different ways, she said. “I believe that was an opportunity that I was certainly grateful to be a part of, like creating the meet, just creating new opportunities where we can show up.

Richardson highlighted the new league’s wider significance. “I know the other females as well, but also it’s a stepping stone, truly, for athletes to realize what’s possible and for other things,” she continued, showing her enthusiasm for Athlos’ potential to advance women’s track and field.

The LA 2028 Olympics are the focus.

Richardson’s attention is already on the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She expressed her excitement about the event’s program, which highlights women’s track and field, by scheduling her specialty, the women’s 100m, on the first day of competition.

The path to LA28 is going to be something extraordinary, especially for the women’s sprints, and track and field is having its moment, Richardson stated. The skill, excitement, and competition… it’s all going to shine.
