Dan Reynolds and Minka Kelly had an unusual beginning to their romance.
Before meeting in person, the frontman of Imagine Dragons and the actress from Ransom Canyon spoke on the phone for a month after being connected by a mutual friend. They rapidly bonded during that period by exchanging song lyrics and passages from their personal books.
Reynold stated he and Kelly are “happy” and attributed their success as a marriage to “really great therapists” in an interview with PEOPLE in July 2024.
He said, “We met in person after about a month, and ever since then, we’ve been attached at the hip.” “My relationship with Minka is really happy and healthy.”
Kelly was connected to Trevor Noah, while Reynolds was previously married to fellow singer Aja Volkman.
The first time Reynolds and Kelly were seen together was during a dinner outing in Los Angeles in the fall of 2022. The couple tends to keep the specifics of their courtship quiet, despite the fact that they have attended a few public occasions together and don’t shy away from PDA.
Kelly gave PEOPLE a rare glimpse into their relationship in May 2025 when she revealed that Reynolds taught her how to play the piano for her Netflix series Ransom Canyon.
“I’ll usually ask my partner to show me how it goes,” she explained. “After that, he will demonstrate where my hands should go. I’ll just keep doing it until I’ve committed it to memory.”

In 2022, they were initially connected.
When Kelly and Reynolds were spotted together in Los Angeles in November 2022, romance rumors began to circulate. After dining at Cafe Stella for five hours, the couple was photographed driving away in a black SUV.
A few days later, the couple went on another PDA-filled outing to confirm their romance. Kelly and Reynolds were seen holding hands while out for a stroll.
Reynolds and Kelly were introduced by a mutual acquaintance.
Reynolds stated in a July 2024 interview with PEOPLE that Kelly was working in the UK at the time, so they spoke on the phone for a month before meeting up after being connected by a mutual acquaintance.
Reynolds claimed that during those early days, they became close through their artistic endeavors. The actress exchanged passages from her book, Tell Me Everything: A Memoir, while the “Radioactive” singer sent her tracks from his band’s album Loom.
“Well, I can share something with you if you’re going to share your art, but it’s very vulnerable for me,” she says. He remembered, “Do you want to do this or not?” “Because we hadn’t met, she was extremely afraid that I would read the book, just as I was afraid that she would hear a song I had written.”
“But we shared it, and then it ended up being a really beautiful thing and brought us a lot closer,” Reynolds continued. I believe it rapidly helped us both gain a deeper understanding of one another.
According to the singer, reading Kelly’s memoir was a special opportunity to get to know her.
“I was hearing all of her life stories from youth to now, and she had a really hard, colorful, beautiful life, so it was a really strange and awesome way to meet someone,” he remarked. “Reading everything before you ever meet someone… I’ve never met someone in that manner.
Together, they have gone to a few public gatherings.
Since they started dating, Kelly and Reynolds have made a few appearances together.
They were photographed kissing during an Inter Miami vs. Los Angeles Galaxy soccer match in February 2024. The singer and actress attended the San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl that same month.
The two went to see Gladiator II at Paramount Pictures Studios later that year in October. Kelly was dressed in a black knit dress, and Reynolds was dressed in a green button-down shirt and black jeans.
Kelly has met the kids of Reynolds.
Reynolds and his ex-wife Volkman are parents to four children: twin girls Gia and Coco, a boy Valentine, and a daughter Arrow.
In July 2024, the singer told PEOPLE that although his children “love” Kelly, the pair has carefully managed her relationship with them.
It’s OK that the children genuinely adore both Minka and their mother. We see it as a bonus for the family: additional people to support and love,” he remarked. “We’ve just been extremely cautious and slow to figure out how to include Minka in that discussion.”
“She’s done a really amazing job of being sensitive and careful on her end as well,” Reynolds continued.
They are a private pair.
For the most part, Kelly and Reynolds keep their connection private. The Friday Night Lights actress exclusively posts pictures of Reynolds’ back on Instagram and hasn’t discussed him in public.
On a spa date in June 2023 and a trip to a Pilates class in November 2024, for example, they aren’t afraid to flaunt their PDA.
Kelly was surprised when Jenna Bush Hager questioned her about Reynolds during a November 2025 interview on Today with Jenna & Friends, citing an Instagram post she had made about the singer, because they keep the specifics of their relationship so quiet.
“I feel very lucky; he’s a really good guy,” Kelly remarked.
Kelly agreed that Reynolds and Imagine Dragons are “the best” when co-host Olivia Munn brought up their previous collaborations.
