As Ipswich Town sign the son of an ex-Manchester United captain, we may eventually see the duo play for the first team.
There have been many renowned Father and Son connections over the years in football. Some of the current famous ones that spring to mind are Lillian and his two sons Kephren and Marcus Thuram, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone and his sons Giovanni and Gianluca who plays under the Argentinian manager.
In terms of Manchester United, the trend is normally when the Father plays for the first eleven, the son joins the youth setup. Steve Bruce and Alex Bruce, Phil and Harvey Neville are just one of many examples that spring to mind.
One of the more recent ones was when Cristiano Ronaldo was at the club and Cristiano Junior played for the juniors alongside Wayne Rooney’s son, Kai Rooney.
A Father-Son combination that is probably little less known though is Ashley Young and his son Tyler Young.
Following a similar trend of the son being in the youth setup whilst the Dad is in the first team, Tyler recently signed for Ipswich Town at the under-21 level following a successful trial spell according to the East Anglian Daily Times.
There was anticipation in January when the chance for Tyler to play against his Dad emerged when Tyler was at Peterborough as they faced Everton in round three of the FA Cup. Darren Ferguson controversially opted to leave Tyler out however with Ashley Young on the pitch.
Tyler Young was on a one-year professional deal with Peterborough last summer, having already spent time in the academies of Arsenal, MK Dons and QPR.
He made just one senior appearance for the Posh against Stevenage in the EFL Trophy in October 2024.
Former United captain Ashley Young signed a one year deal with Ipswich Town in July, impressively at the age of 40 despite the Championship being a physically robust league.
With Father and Son at Portman Road, we may eventually get the chance to see both on the same team.
