One of the Indianapolis Colts’ standout performers this preseason was defensive end Isaiah Land, who, after being released, has now landed on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.
I have to imagine that this was one of the more difficult roster cuts that the Colts had to make during cutdowns.
Throughout the preseason, Land was extremely disruptive. He finished the three games, totaling seven pressures and one sack. This includes three pressures in each of the last two games.
Among all defensive ends this preseason, Land ranked 10th in pass rush win rate.
However, the decision to move on from him likely came down to a numbers game with Land at a crowded defensive end position group.
Had the Colts rostered him, he would have been the sixth defensive end on the depth chart and even at a heavily rotated postion, getting that many players regular snaps is a near-impossible task, which likely would have left Land inactive on Sundays more often than not.
Land went undrafted in 2023 out of Florida A&M and initially joined the Cowboys. After being released by Dallas as a rookie during cutdowns, Land was claimed on waivers by the Colts and spent the last two seasons with the team.
