The buzz is building for the Seattle Seahawks in year two of the Mike Macdonald era. In particular, there is plenty of excitement about how the Seahawks defense will look as Macdonald enters his second season of installing his philosophy.
Despite plenty of talent on Seattle’s roster, the Seahawks continue to be floated as a potential landing spot for a star pass rusher. The biggest names in ongoing NFL rumors are Micah Parsons and Trey Hendrickson.
Could the Seahawks make a run at the Cincinnati Bengals star pass rusher?
Seahawks Rumors: Seattle Pushed to Strike Trade for Bengals Pass Rusher Trey Hendrickson
Seattle Sports’ Stacy Rost makes the case for the Seahawks going “all-in” on a blockbuster trade.
“Things remain at an impasse with the Cincinnati Bengals and star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson,” Rost detailed in an Augsut 20, 2025, story titled, “Stacy Rost: Why this may be the time for an all-in Seahawks trade.” “At 30 years old, Hendrickson, who tallied 17.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons, would be a tempting trade target for a team looking to win right now.
“What if that team is the Seattle Seahawks? And by that, I don’t mean, ‘What if Hendrickson is a perfect fit for Seattle?’ — though he would undoubtedly make their defense better — but rather, ‘Why can’t the Seahawks be a team that’s trying to win this year?’”
Potential Seahawks Trade Target Trey Hendrickson Posted Back-to-Back Seasons With 17.5 Sacks
The reason Hendrickson is being floated in trade rumors is the ongoing standoff between the defender and Bengals over a new contract. Hendrickson is on a one-year, $21 million contract with the Bengals for 2025.
CBS Sports’ Joel Corry projects Hendrickson’s next contract will be in the neighborhood of a three-year, $115 million contract. The reason for Hendrickson’s eventual sizable new deal is tied to his impressive resume.
Hendrickson is a four-time Pro Bowler and was named an All-Pro for 2024. The pass rusher has been elite at getting to the quarterback posting 13 or more sacks in four of the last five seasons.
The Bengals Are Seeking a First-Round Pick & a Young Defender in a Trade for Trey Hendrickson: Insider
Hendrickson is coming off back-to-back seasons with 17.5 sacks. If Seattle was to make a run at Hendrickson, what would a potential trade look like?
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Bengals’ asking price is a first-round pick plus a young defender.
“Cincinnati seeks draft capital and is also targeting defensive players in a potential deal for Hendrickson, according to teams that have inquired about Hendrickson,” Russini wrote in an August 17, article titled, “Bengals engaged in trade talks for Trey Hendrickson amid contract impasse: Sources.” “Teams that have recently inquired about the pass rusher were told Cincinnati’s asking price included a young defensive player and a 2026 first-round pick, according to league sources.
“There’s a strong belief that the Bengals could have netted a better draft pick in a Hendrickson trade if they had moved him earlier in the spring, one of the sources told The Athletic.”
