Derby County have reportedly had a bid of £1.5 million rejected for Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis.
According to Elliott Jackson of the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn have knocked back Derby’s opening offer as it fell short of their asking price for the midfielder.
Travis’ future has been the subject of mounting speculation throughout the summer and former Blackburn boss John Eustace is a huge admirer of the 27-year-old.
Blackburn run the risk of eventually losing Travis on a free as his current deal expires in less than 12 months and no progress has been made on a new contract.
While the Lancashire outfit have not ruled out the prospect of Travis departing, they have made their stance clear on how much they value the combative midfielder, who has been on the club’s books since 2014.
Derby are expected to return with an improved offer for Travis.
Appointed club captain of Blackburn in 2022, Travis’ career has been tumultuous since. Rovers rejected a bid from Millwall for his services in 2023 but six months later, Jon Dahl Tomasson sanctioned his loan move to Ipswich Town.
Travis cut a revitalised figure upon his return under Eustace, helping the club compete for a play-off berth prior to Eustace’s switch to Derby in February.
There have already been some notable departures from Ewood Park during the current window with Tyrhys Dolan leaving at the end of his contract to join La Liga side Espanyol, Callum Brittain heading to Middlesbrough and the experienced duo of Danny Batth and Andreas Weimann teaming up with Eustace’s Rams.
Blackburn have delved into the continental markets for new recruits with Sidnei Tavares joining from Moreirense, Axel Henriksson from GAIS and the pairing of Dion De Neve and Ryan Alebiosu signing from KV Kortrijk.
