Everton have “explored a deal” to sign Sunderland sensation Chris Rigg this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
With a new stadium and new ownership, now well in the midst of their first summer in charge, there is optimism around Everton once again, the Toffees having faced their struggles in recent years. For the first half of last season, it appeared that the Merseyside club would be battling against relegation from the Premier League for yet another campaign.
At the turn of the year, however, Everton brought David Moyes back for his second stint at the club, 12 years after he initially departed the club. Under Moyes, Everton climbed well away from the bottom three, ultimately finishing the season comfortably within the confines of mid-table.
Everton, who remain in the market for further additions, have recruited four new faces at the time of writing. Not including Charly Alcaraz, who saw his loan made permanent, the Toffees have signed goalkeeper Mark Travers, defender Adam Aznou, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and striker Thierno Barry.
Now, it would appear that the Blues want to offer further depth to their midfield by signing an incredible talent.
Everton Keen on Rigg

Last season, Sunderland finally sealed their return to the Premier League after almost a decade outside the top flight. The Black Cats had, and have since added to, a selection of older players with experience, but many of Sunderland’s starting players in recent years have been younger talents with loads of potential.
One such player is Chris Rigg who, since debuting in 2023, has become an established part of the Sunderland first team at just 18 years of age. As per TEAMtalk, Moyes is “on the hunt for young and hungry attacking players,” a bracket that Rigg certainly fits into, as does Tyler Dibling, who Everton are also keen on signing.
In Rigg, who has been called “the best young English player since Jude Bellingham,” Everton would be signing a player who, while attack-minded, can offer support in defensive phases of the game.
Whether Sunderland would be willing to sell the homegrown Rigg, especially after losing Jobe Bellingham, is another matter. Should Everton negotiate a deal for the midfielder, it would be a stellar addition for Moyes’ side, though as things stand, “both clubs are miles apart” in their valuation of the teenager.
