The Seattle Seahawks didn’t have a horrible first season under Mike Macdonald as they went 10-7. Yet, in a year in which the NFC was super competitive, it led to them missing out on a playoff spot.
Heading into year two, Macdonald will want to ensure that isn’t the case again. They already made major changes at their quarterback position as they signed Sam Darnold and have their future potential franchise quarterback in Jalen Milroe if developed correctly.
With the Seahawks, though, they still need to make more adjustments to their pass rush to make sure that isn’t stabilized for the season. How they can accomplish this is by looking back into free agency, and sign Jadeveon Clowney.
Seattle Seahawks Signing Jadeveon Clowney
Jadeveon Clowney remains a free agent ahead of the NFL Preseason getting underway. With Clowney having spent 11 seasons in the NFL already, it’s understandable as to why he is in no rush to sign with a team, and would rather wait closer to the season.
For Jadeveon Clowney, that approach might just pay off, as the Seahawks are clearly looking to add to their pass rush.
Before Von Miller ended up signing with the Washington Commanders, it’s been reported that the Seahawks were in discussion to sign him. For Seattle, they can’t go into this season relying on just Boye Mafe as the standout pass rusher, and then relying on Demarcus Lawrence and Derick Hall to stay healthy. As if any of the three end up suffering an injury, the pass rusher production will take a hit with no talented depth behind them.
By signing Jadeveon Clowney, the Seahawks would help further their edge room and get the depth they need on the team. This would also reunite Clowney with Macdonald as Clowney was a player under Macdonald when he was the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, a season in which Clowney excelled with 78 pressures and 11 sacks.
