Derby County set to beat Newcastle United to £10m former Liverpool midfielder as medical is booked

Derby County are closing in on their ninth summer signing.

It’s been an excellent transfer window for John Eustace, and he has been extremely busy in making improvements to his team after the Rams narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of last season.

Carlton Morris believes Derby are ‘bigger’ than Luton Town after leaving the Hatters for the East Midlands in July, but his full focus will be on Saturday’s clash with Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

However, Eustace has still been searching for new stars, and he now looks set to capture another young ace.

Bobby Clark set for medical at Derby County ahead of loan move

Bobby Clark is a player that Derby supporters are well-attuned to by now, with the Championship outfit having been linked with the midfielder on numerous occasions in the past.

Now, Pete O’Rourke has reported that the Rams have booked in a medical for the talented 20-year-old who left Liverpool last summer to join RB Salzburg.

As per BBC News, the Austrian outfit paid £10m for the then teenager, with the Premier League champions holding a 17.5% sell-on clause in the deal.

Clark made 17 appearances and scored one goal in the Austrian Bundesliga last season, while also making six appearances in the Champions League, making this a significant coup for Derby.

Newcastle United have also shown interest in Bobby Clark

The Rams are not the only club to have the midfielder on their radar recently, with Newcastle United also being offered his services on loan, according to the Chronicle Live.

However, there would be a debate about his game time in the Premier League, and a move to Derby could enhance his development more than if he made the switch to the Magpies.

Clark came through the academy at Newcastle, and his father Lee Clark spent eight years at the club as a senior player across two spells, retiring in 2006.

Nevertheless, it looks as though the Rams have won the race for the 20-year-old and he will be a key player for Eustace this season.
