“I’m really pleased with the way the lads performed today. It was a tough, competitive game, and Walsall came here with a clear plan to make life difficult for us. But ultimately, I think our team showed great character and resilience to come out on top with a 3-2 win.
The first half was very much a cagey affair. Both teams were feeling each other out, and it was clear Walsall were going to be a tough opponent. We created a few chances, but didn’t quite take them early on. Our defensive shape was good, but we gave away a couple of opportunities which Walsall punished. Their goals kept the game level, and it was a bit nervy going into the break.
During the halftime team talk, I reminded the players to stay focused and trust in the game plan. I told them to be more decisive in the final third and to keep pressing Walsall’s backline. They responded well. In the second half, we were a different team — sharper, more aggressive, and more clinical in front of goal.
The first goal really lifted the whole team and the crowd. From that moment, we gained momentum and our confidence grew. I was particularly impressed with the character shown by the squad. Even after Walsall pulled one back to make it 2-2, the players didn’t panic. They kept pushing and eventually got the winner, which was thoroughly deserved.
Credit must go to everyone on the pitch. The forwards worked tirelessly, the midfield controlled the tempo, and the defenders stood firm under pressure. Our goalkeeper made some key saves when it mattered most, which ultimately kept us in the game.
I also want to acknowledge the supporters who came out in numbers and gave us fantastic backing throughout the 90 minutes. The energy they provided was crucial, especially when the game was tight.
This result is a positive step for us as a team. It’s important we build on this momentum and continue improving. We know there’s still a lot of work to do, but today’s win shows the potential in this squad and the fighting spirit we have.
We’ll take the three points, learn from the mistakes, and get ready for the next challenge. Overall, a very encouraging performance.”
