Former Manchester United captain looks set to join Ipswich Town under former United coach, Kieran McKenna.
With the 2025/26 season less than a month away, clubs are working hard to finalise their squads during the transfer window.
Pre-season is in full swing, and teams are juggling preparations on the pitch with negotiations off it.
Manchester United have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha and appear close to landing Bryan Mbeumo, with more additions potentially on the way.
But now, fresh developments have emerged regarding the future of a former club captain.
Ipswich Town, managed by former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna, completed a historic rise to the Premier League.
McKenna took charge while the club was in League One and guided them to back-to-back promotions.
However, England’s top flight proved a step too far, and Ipswich were relegated last season, along with the other two promoted sides.
Now back in the Championship, McKenna and Ipswich are aiming to refresh the squad and mount an immediate push for promotion.
According to talkSPORT, Ipswich now look set to complete the signing of former Manchester United captain Ashley Young.
Young was initially expected to rejoin his former club Watford, but the Hornets appear to have been priced out of a move due to his high wage demands.
Now 40 years old, Young is set to play in the Championship for the first time in over two decades.
He’ll be hoping to use his vast experience and quality to help guide Ipswich back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Ashley Young spent nine years at Manchester United, making over 250 appearances during his time at Old Trafford.
During his spell at the club, he won six major trophies, including the Premier League title in 2013.
A versatile and hard-working player, Young was also named club captain in his later years before departing in 2020.
Now in the twilight of his career, the veteran full-back will be aiming to add one more achievement by helping Ipswich win promotion and possibly silverware in the Championship.
