Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says he’s expecting more ins and outs at the club before the transfer window closes on September 1.
The Blues ended a training week in Austria with a 4-1 friendly win at FC Blau-Weiss Linz this afternoon, a different XI fielded in each half.
Sam Morsy, Omari Hutchinson and Aro Muric all didn’t feature, with Morsy on the verge of completing a free transfer switch to Kuwait SC and Town having rejected a £35m bid from Brentford for Hutchinson.
On the latter, McKenna said: “Omari’s still on a well-earned break. There’s obviously been interested parties in Omari, which is natural with how he done, but he’s still an Ipswich Town player.
“My full focus really has been on the group that’s here. Hopefully we’ll catch up with Omari next week.”
The 2025/26 Championship season kicks off in three weeks, with the transfer window closing on September 1.
Liam Delap, Axel Tuanzebe, Cameron Burgess and Massimo Luongo have all departed the Blues so far this summer, with David Button, Cedric Kipre and Azor Matusiwa signed.
Asked how many more additions he’d like to make, the Blues boss replied: “There’s definitely still work to do, no doubt about that.
“I think it’s natural when you have promotion and relegation seasons, there’s more turnover than what you would like. Sometimes things can be in your control, sometimes out of your control.
“Sometimes players want to move on for different reasons. So I think there’s still a fair bit left in the summer.
“Our priority has been to try and keep as many of our best players as we can. Beyond that, different players might have their desires or different opportunities that arise to them.
“We want to have as strong a squad as possible. So, yeah, I think there’s still plenty of work to be done in the summer, to be honest.
“I still think there’ll be movement in both directions for different reasons. Of course, we want to get the group together and solidified as soon as possible. That has to be the goal over the next few weeks.”
Asked in any new signings were close, McKenna paused for an age and puffed his cheeks.
“Anything close? How close is close?” he smiled. “To be honest, no, I don’t think as far as I know. Again, my focus has been here with the group. But in terms of this weekend, if that means close or someone being in the building on Monday morning, not that I know of.
“We want to get players in as quickly as possible. We want to get different situations settled and push on with the group.
“It’s just something that we need to stay strong through as a club. We need to try and come out the other side with a really strong group.”
