Done Deal: Derby Defender Signs New Two-Year Deal

Derby County stalwart Craig Forsyth has signed a new two-year contract with the club, extending his stay at Pride Park until the summer of 2027. The deal ensures the experienced defender will continue his long-standing association with the Rams, having become one of the club’s most loyal and respected figures over the past decade.

Forsyth, 35, first joined Derby in 2013, initially on loan from Watford before making the move permanent later that year. Since then, he has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the club, serving under numerous managers and playing a key role in various promotion pushes, play-off campaigns, and, more recently, Derby’s efforts to rebuild following financial challenges and relegation to League One.

This latest contract extension underlines the trust and value that head coach Paul Warne and the club’s leadership place in Forsyth—not only for his consistency on the pitch but also for his leadership and mentoring presence in the dressing room.

Speaking after signing the new deal, Forsyth expressed his pride and enthusiasm for continuing his career with Derby County. “This club means everything to me,” he said. “I’ve been through a lot here—highs and lows—and it’s an honour to keep wearing the shirt. I feel fit, motivated, and ready to contribute both on and off the pitch.”

Paul Warne praised Forsyth’s professionalism and influence, noting, “Fozzy is the kind of player every manager wants. He sets an example in training, leads by doing, and brings calmness and experience to the backline. His commitment to Derby is unwavering, and we’re thrilled to have him on board for another two years.”

Forsyth’s extension also signals Derby’s intent to maintain a balance between experienced players and the development of younger talent. His leadership is expected to play a crucial role as the Rams prepare for the 2025/26 season with promotion back to the Championship firmly in their sights.

With over a decade of loyal service and still performing at a high level, Craig Forsyth’s new deal is being widely welcomed by fans, many of whom regard him as a modern Derby legend. As he prepares for his 13th full season with the club, Forsyth remains a key figure in the Rams’ pursuit of success both now and in the future.
