Alexander Zverev‘s partner Sophia Thomalla has revealed the world No 2’s strange bedroom habits before sleeping.
The couple have been together since 2021 and often travel around the world together for his tournaments.
The tens of thousands of air miles are enough for Thomalla to handle – but it’s Zverev’s odd superstitions where the German model draws the line.
‘Superstition is a sign of weakness. Because you cling to certain rituals just because you don’t have faith in yourself,’ she told RTL.
Thomalla detailed her boyfriend’s rigid nighttime routine and explained that she feels the urge to cry every night when they are together.
‘Every evening, before he goes to bed, he goes to the toilet three times, and then back to bed, back and forth like that,’ Thomalla added.
In October 2020, Zverev was accused of domestic abuse by his ex-girlfriend, Olga Sharypova. He denied those claims on Instagram, saying that her “unfounded allegations” were “simply not true”.
Sharypova subsequently conducted two interviews with journalist Ben Rothenberg, which were published in November 2020 and August 2021, respectively.
The alleged assaults included Zverev punching her in the face, covering her face with a pillow until she struggled to breathe and pushing her against a wall.
In October 2021, the ATP — male tennis’ governing body — announced an investigation into those allegations. Zverev again denied any wrongdoing.
That ATP investigation took place over 15 months before it was closed in January 2023. Zverev was not sanctioned, with the body citing insufficient evidence.
Zverev subsequently issued a statement maintaining his innocence and welcoming the ATP’s
Alexander Zverev will take on Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final of the Madrid Open, looking to reclaim the title that he won in 2021.
The 28-year-old German is currently ranked third in the world and he is considered one of the favorites for this year’s competition. Taking to the court in the Spanish capital, Zverev will likely be cheered on by his girlfriend, the model/actress Sophia Thomalla.
The couple have been together since 2020 and Thomalla regularly posts about the tennis star in her social media accounts. Speaking about their relationship, Zverev revealed that she has helped him to play more calmly.
“I think for tennis players it is always very important who you have next to you. Sophia is someone who gives me peace and security,” Zverev said in an interview with a German tennis magazine. “I play extremely well with her behind me and I hope that will continue to be the case next year and maybe even better. I haven’t achieved all of my goals yet
