History of the Braves Franchise

1961: Against the Reds, Eddie Mattews, Hank Aaron, Joe Adcock, and Frank Thomas hit four straight home runs for the Milwaukee Braves, setting a major league record. Aaron and Matthews hit home runs off starter Jim Maloney. Marshall Bridges, a reliever, is homered by Adcock and Thomas. The Braves lost 10–8 in spite of the accomplishment.

1978: Bob Horner is selected by the Atlanta Braves with the first overall choice in the 78 Draft. As the inaugural No. 1 overall pick, Horner will enter the major leagues right away.

2015: With the first overall pick in the 2015 Draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks select Vanderbilt shortstop Dansby Swanson.

The History of MLB

1920: After a protracted disagreement in the infield, Reds player Edd Roush nods off in centerfield. Roush is ejected by the umpire for causing the game to be delayed, even though Heinie Groh walks out to wake him.

1935: Lou Gehrig sustains arm and shoulder injuries after colliding with Carl Reynolds during a play at first base. However, if the game the following day is rained out before a planned off day, his streak of games played in a row is still intact.

1955: In order to create space on their roster for Sandy Koufax, the Los Angeles Dodgers optioned Tommy Lasorda to the minor leagues.

1968: Don Drysdale’s run of 58 straight scoreless innings is broken by a sacrifice fly by Howie Bedell in the fifth inning.

1969: Before a game against the White Sox, Mickey Mantle’s No. 7 is retired in front of a crowd of over 60,000 people at Yankee Stadium.

1977: Against the Blue Jays, Nolan Ryan has 19 strikeouts in 10 innings. Ryan has 19 strikeouts in his fourth game of the season.

2005: In a 12-3 victory over the Brewers, Alex Rodriguez hits a solo home run in the eighth inning, becoming the youngest player to reach the 400 home run milestone.

2012: The Mariners defeat the Dodgers 1-0 thanks to a no-hitter from six pitchers. After Kevin Millwood completes the first six innings, Charlie Furbush, Brandon League, Lucas Luetge, Stephen Pryor, and Tom Wilhelmsen come next.
