Good News: Big Dawn Staley Announcement Made on Saturday

For many years, head coach Dawn Staley has guided the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team to success.

Since joining the team in 2008, Staley has made a name for herself as one of the greatest coaches in the history of women’s collegiate basketball.

Staley was incredibly well-known following a season in which South Carolina advanced to the national championship game before losing to Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies.

South Carolina women’s basketball writer LuLu Kesin reports that a statue in Staley’s honor would shortly be unveiled by the city of Columbia, South Carolina.

“On Wednesday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m., the City of Columbia will unveil the statue honoring South Carolina WBB coach Dawn Staley,” Kesin stated.

In addition, Staley has won two AP Coach of the Year awards, four Naismith Coach of the Year awards, and seven SEC Coach of the Year awards.

Prior to their 82-59 loss to UConn in the NCAA Tournament last season, Staley guided the South Carolina Gamecocks to a deep run.

During March Madness, South Carolina defeated Duke, Texas, Indiana, Maryland, and Tennessee Tech.

The head coach of South Carolina will take a brief break Wednesday to attend the installation of her monument in the city of Columbia, while Staley and the Gamecocks get ready for the journey to the national championship game.
