Braves Snitker Shares Plan for Ronald Acuña Jr. Ahead of Phillies Series

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker has outlined a cautious and strategic plan for Ronald Acuña Jr.’s return to the lineup ahead of the upcoming series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Acuña, who suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on May 26, 2024, and underwent surgery on June 6, 2024, is set to make his return to Major League Baseball on Friday, May 23, 2025, after nearly a year-long absence. This return comes just three days before the anniversary of his injury.

During his rehabilitation, Acuña has shown promising progress. He played six games for Triple-A Gwinnett, posting a .400 batting average with two home runs and two RBIs. Additionally, he homered in his first game with the Braves’ Florida Complex League team on May 13. Snitker confirmed that Acuña feels ready and will be activated for the series opener against the San Diego Padres.

Acuña’s return is a significant boost for the Braves, as he was a key contributor to their offense in 2023, becoming the first player in MLB history to achieve a 40-homer, 70-stolen-base season. He led the majors in several key offensive categories, including runs, hits, and on-base percentage. However, his 2024 season was cut short due to the knee injury. Prior to the injury, he had a .250 batting average with four home runs, 15 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases in 49 games.

Snitker emphasized the importance of not rushing Acuña’s recovery. He noted that Acuña has been progressing according to plan and that the team is taking a cautious approach to ensure his long-term health. The manager also mentioned that Acuña’s return to the lineup is a positive development for the team, as they look to strengthen their roster for the remainder of the season.

As the Braves prepare for the series against the Phillies, Acuña’s return is eagerly anticipated by fans and teammates alike. His presence in the lineup adds depth and dynamic playmaking ability, which will be crucial as the team aims to compete at a high level in the National League.
