Morten Lunde Spencer, a promising 21-year-old midfielder formerly with Derby County, has announced his retirement from professional football due to a serious heart condition.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Spencer shared the devastating news, stating, “I will be retiring from professional football due to a cardiac problem I can’t carry on with.” He expressed pride in his achievements and gratitude for the experiences football has provided him.
Spencer’s journey began at Marton FC at the age of four, progressing through Sunderland’s academy before joining Leeds United in 2019. In 2024, he signed with Derby County’s U21 team. Known for his deep-lying midfield role, Spencer was celebrated for his exceptional passing ability and two-footed playmaking skills. He had also represented England at youth levels before switching his national allegiance to Norway.
