Chris Stewart, a 4-star wide receiver from Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, Texas, committed to the University of Texas in June 2024. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 175 pounds, Stewart is recognized for his exceptional speed and playmaking ability. In the 2023 season, he recorded 35 receptions for 654 yards and 10 touchdowns. His performance earned him offers from numerous top programs, including Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
Tennessee extended a scholarship offer to Stewart in April 2024. He expressed admiration for the Volunteers’ offense and highlighted a personal connection between Tennessee’s wide receivers coach, Kelsey Pope, and his uncle. Stewart mentioned that Pope and offensive analyst KJ Parmer played a significant role in his recruitment by engaging in meaningful conversations with him.
Despite his commitment to Texas, Stewart has maintained communication with other programs, including Tennessee. He acknowledged that while he is currently comfortable with his decision, he remains open to building relationships with other coaching staffs. Stewart is scheduled to take official visits to Tennessee, Miami, Oklahoma, SMU, and Arizona State in the spring and summer of 2025.
Coach Pope’s recruitment efforts have been well-received by prospects. For instance, four-star wide receiver Devin Hyatt, brother of current Tennessee receiver Jalin Hyatt, expressed excitement about Pope’s promotion to wide receivers coach, noting Pope’s youthful energy and knowledge.
While Stewart’s commitment to Texas remains firm for now, Tennessee’s continued engagement and the strong rapport between Stewart and Coach Pope could influence his recruitment in the coming months.
