Auburn men’s basketball inked JUCO big man Emeka Opurum

Auburn men’s basketball has bolstered its frontcourt for the 2025–26 season by securing a commitment from 7-foot center Emeka Opurum, a standout from Butler Community College in Kansas.

Opurum, originally from Lagos, Nigeria, has impressed scouts with his athleticism and potential, making him a significant addition to Coach Bruce Pearl’s rebuilding efforts.

Standing at 7 feet and weighing 200 pounds, Opurum possesses a remarkable combination of size and agility. His transition from Nigeria to the U.S. has been seamless, quickly adapting to the junior college level. His highlights feature numerous alley-oops and nimble movements around the basket, showcasing his high ceiling as a rim protector and rebounder. Despite his raw frame, Opurum’s athleticism and potential have drawn attention from multiple programs, including offers from Iowa and George Mason.

Auburn’s recruitment of Opurum aligns with their broader strategy of enhancing their roster through junior college talent. Earlier in the year, the Tigers also secured commitments from top JUCO players like Abdul Bashir, a 6-foot-7 combo guard averaging 28 points per game, and Sebastian Williams-Adams, a four-star power forward . These additions are part of a concerted effort to strengthen Auburn’s lineup and compete effectively in the Southeastern Conference.

Opurum’s commitment is a testament to Auburn’s commitment to developing talent and building a competitive team. With his blend of size, athleticism, and potential, he is poised to make a significant impact on the court in the upcoming season.
