Blue Jays Make Unacceptable Announcement During Red Sox Match

The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox will play their second Spring Training game on Sunday at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.

In the spring, each team had a 1-0 record.

Toronto gave Bo Bichette, Andres Gimenez, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a day off on Sunday after a busy Spring Training opener. This provided more playing time for the organization’s young players, notably 2018 sixth-round MLB draft pick Addison Barger.

Barger made his 2025 Spring Training debut on Sunday, starting at third base and hitting second for manager John Schneider.

In his first at-bat on Sunday, Barger was taken out of the game after taking a Garrett Crochet pitch off his hand. The ball was ruled foul off the bat’s knob, but it hooked a bit of Barger’s hand, preventing him from finishing the at-bat.

The Blue Jays have recently announced that Barger had a hand injury, which necessitated his departure.

This is expected to be a significant spring for Barger, as he competes for playing time in a crowded Blue Jays infield. The Blue Jays have not provided a date for Barger’s return, but his spring debut ending midway through one at-bat is disappointing.

While he posted just a .601 OPS in 2024, his first season in MLB, Barger was ranked Toronto’s sixth-best prospect in 2023 (via MLB.com). The 25-year-old owns a career .815 OPS in MiLB, flashing some real offensive prowess from the left side of the plate.
